rental car, blizzard?
Yesterday afternoon while I was trying to finish my Spanish homework before class, my dad calls and tells me that he is going to go ahead and file a claim with State Farm on my car. When you are all finished with your classes today go need to go to Price King Car Rental and pick up a rental car. He had called and talked to them about renting a car and told them that I would be down there sometime in the afternoon. Due to the phone call and my inability to conjugate Spanish verbs in the past tense, I didn’t get my homework done before class so I just email my assignment. No big deal. I picked up Jennifer when she was finished in the library and we went to the car place. Jennifer was bitchy the whole time we were there, because I was wasting her precious time and she wouldn’t just leave until she knew I had gotten a hold of dad for his credit card information. Once all was said and done and we got home she was pissed off at me because she didn’t get to go for a run before she had to go to work. The rental car is the newest vehicle I have ever driven. It is a Dark Blue 1998 Ford Escort, and in honor of my little Silent Bob (my Red 92 Escort that was totaled back in 99) I will be calling this car Jay while I have it. (See Bonkrood, there was a really good reason for not calling Sparticus Jay, I just didn’t know what it was.) I don’t like this car as much as Silent Bob, but boy is it nice to have a car that is capable of driving faster than 45 mph and doesn’t smell like a gas pump. I even took the interstate on my way home from work last night. I have never been able to do that. Well, I could have the few nights that I had Jennifer’s car but I am so used to going the long way that I just spaced it. Today the wonderful city of Grand Forks (actually Grand Forks, Fargo and most of the surrounding area) have Blizzard Warnings. Yippee Skipee. The CBS news at noon weatherman made a big deal about this being the first one since 97 when they had 8. When I went out a little bit ago it didn’t seem like a Blizzard to me. The wind is blowing pretty hard so the snow that is on the ground is blowing around. It isn’t snowing, what bits of the sky you can see are blue and the sun is shining. All kinds of schools are canceling class. When I was little I remember going to school on days when to get to the doors of the school you had to walk on the path dug through the snow banks. When I was in High School we didn’t have snow days scheduled into the school year. School was more likely to be canceled because an idiot would call in a bomb threat, so they wouldn’t have to take a math test than adverse weather conditions. I am sure the conditions are a lot worse out on the highways and interstates, where there aren’t buildings and all that to break up the wind a bit so visibility is much better in town. I just think it is funny how people here think that 2 inches of snow is enough to get school canceled. The last morning that it was snowing when I drove to school, the DJs on the radio were making a fuss about how none of the area schools were being closed. Craziness. I have some stuff to take care of for my dad now that I don’t have to fight with Jennifer for a car. Have a great day and stay warm.
